Phil: well, most of what that legal contract was aimed at was so that they could put your blog onto the http://spaces.msn.com home page without worrying too much about it. They might do an aggregator sometime in the future too, so had to prepare for that eventuality as well. I don't believe they will wholesale redistribute my blog elsewhere. If the team tried to do something like that I'd yell and scream.

Hmm, no, it has nothing to do with the ownership issues. I can go over and beat up the lawyers if they get out of control anyway. :-)

We need a place where we both can sign in and post. A team blog. Something like .TEXT would be great for us. That's another option. But I wanted to learn TypePad first. Learning all the tools is very important to our book as well. I think we'll need a chapter on the "how" of blogging and collaborating. So, we'll need to authoritatively write about a variety of tools, not just Microsoft's.

Finally, I know the MSN Spaces team is working on a whole raft of things. I'm actually suprised at how much I like their service. It's limiting in a lot of ways, but it really is nice in a whole lot of other ways.

They specifically designed it for personal publishing and ignored the "professional" uses of blogging. Will that change in version 2.0? I hope so, but that's for the team to decide after doing market research and all that.

Robert, do you think this decision will make Microsoft add any of the features missing from the list you gave? If the content ownership here at MSN is not the point of your moving, then I would think that your switching the blog would be a "glass of cold water" in the faces of the Spaces development group.
With some of the new free blogging locations, such as blogsome.com which gives you access to your own Wordpress software set up and ready to use with plugins and themes at your disposal, will Spaces try to compete and continue to develop, or just try to get by? I have to feel this decision of yours will create some rumblings in Redmond..

Would this have anything to do with Michael Connolly's comments [http://spaces.msn.com/members/emcee/Blog/cns!1puJX0wyfDBnpqXQNuxMSDBA!201.entry] on content ownership within MSN Spaces. I quote "the wording in the TOU is all about granting us the right to post your content and share it out on MSN". Does this mean that MSN could publish content from your book, albeit in an electronic form, elsewhere on the MSN network?
